Fine Arts: Art History
Open To: Students in Grades 8-12.
Materials Used: The Classic Point of View by Kenyon Cox, other resources.
Description: The course will explore the history of western art from early medieval to realism. Students will apply principles from the classical point of view to various works of art. They will become familiar with basic art vocabulary, focus on identifying the various periods of art as well as learn about artists and symbolism in paintings. The class will also teach some basic drawing skills and how to look at and understand paintings.
Fine Arts: Art Appreciation
Open To: Students in Grades 1-5.
Materials Used: All materials supplied.
Description: This course will use the Mommy, It's a Renoir cards and use the exercises suggested in the Mother of Divine Grace School syllabi. Student groups will be small. Classes will run about 1/2 hour. (The students will see the pictures displayed on their computer screen by the teacher.)
Fine Arts: Music History
Open To: Students in Grades 8-12.

Description: Music is an important part of classical education. The music of the great composers is truly beautiful. We are thrilled to offer this course taught by a certified music instructor with a degree in music education. This course introduces students to classical music and the great composers. This class covers music history and appreciation.
Fine Arts: Music Theory
Open To: Students in Grades 7-12.
Materials Used: Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory (Books 1, 2 and 3, for the corresponding levels of theory.); other resources.
Description: Music theory is a great one semester class where you will have an understanding of musical structure starting with its foundation, building blocks and rules for composition. The higher the level of music theory you choose to study, the more intense and in-depth the study of these skills get. You will get a great opportunity to show off the skills you've learned by submitting a composition you create!
Theory I: Appropriate for students with no music experience or 1-2 years of playing an instrument, including voice with a private music teacher.
Theory II: Appropriate for students who have had more years of study. Contact instructor for
placement test.
Theory III: Appropriate for students very serious about their music and planning to study more in college. Prerequisites: Theory II and instructor approval.
Fine Arts: Radio Drama
Open To: Students in Grades 8-12.
Materials Used: All materials provided.
Description: The class will progress through diction and tonal exercises to reading aloud and “voice acting” using actual radio scripts. In the spring semester, the students will begin work on their own radio scripts, which will be produced in class. The students may work in pairs or small groups for script development. Work outside of class will consist of diction practice, listening to assigned audio, reading assigned scripts, practicing voice delivery technique, script analysis, preparing to read in character for production (no memorization necessary), developing an original script. Some classes will run 1.5 hours.
Intro to Music: Notation and Instruments
Open To: Students in Grades 1-5.
Materials Used: Ready to Use Music Reading Activity Kit, Those Amazing Musical Instruments
Description: We are delighted to offer this new course taught by a certified music instructor with a degree in music education. This course introduces students to musical terminology, notation, scales, meter, the instrument families, and much more.
Intro to Music: Composers
Open To: Students in Grades 5-8.
Materials Used: Music Masters; other re-sources including Andrew Pudewa's lecture on classical music.

Recorder
Open To: Students in Grades 1-5.
Materials Used: Basic Recorder Lessons: Omnibus Edition by Ralph Zeitlin; recorder. (Special recorders are available for students whose fingers are too short to reach holes.)
Description: Learning to play the recorder is an excellent skill for any student. It is recommended in the Mother of Divine Grace School syllabi. Students will be taught recorder via web-cam. (The student and teacher will be able to see each other.) Class sizes will be very small to ensure maximum teacher-student time. We will offer two levels, one level (1/2 hour class) for students in Grade 1-2 and a second level (1 hour class) for students in Grades 3-5.
